The piteous lone traveler

The piteous lone traveler

i went along the route traveled
by most, both young and old
with a cell phone costlier than gold
yet along the course what unraveled
was sadder than most, so was i told

what you may read might sound just comical
-at first, but trust me you would
roll in laughter, more than you should
So here's the story that's tragical
in more ways than one for the lad who was...well, misunderstood

i had a phone, smart it was to do
anything -except forcing someone to call
i sat inside the vehicle, share auto they call,
alas, it was worse than sitting in a loo
and yet i took with me the phone... and all

Diversity, i had read about in text
yet that day was the one i felt
i had seen an example and dealt,
Many were there that day all annexed
to the tiny vehicle, bulging through its belt

To my horror, i found
every single person on their phone
except a geriatric, whom i found all alone
Tamil , Hindi , English , Telugu and Malayalam all around
was all i could fathom from the sound.

Awkward was it for me to sit,
among this crowd of people attending calls
when i had to sit silently staring at the walls
Out of no where did i hear a voice, that hit
me hard, sure to bring out some soft LOL(s)

The geriatric who i mentioned earlier
was the source of this loud noise,
snorted did he from the crowd with a loud voice,
"cut the damn calls, the poor boy is feeling demure"
My god did he point the finger at me, oh boys!

Embarrassed was i with those words,
Only to be even more... later,
Snorted again did the old man, greater
"Son, isn't there anyone to call you ? ...poor nerds!!",
What ? why ? when ? how ? please stop this banter

So this was the story of the piteous lone traveler,
who endured this embarrassing situation,
ever after did he proceed with caution
who do you think was the poor traveler
he is none other than yours truly(exclamation)

Yes... yes.... now Rebecca black's Friday sounds better and an LKG kid would have written a better poem, but trust me.... if this had been in an article format you would have hated it more.

And for those who are wondering if this is a poem, Yes it is ! It follows the style a-b-b-a-b (alliteration if you fancy :p)

Literally !!

  • i am literally amused by the wrong usage of the word 'literally' in places where it literally has to be the word figuratively or metaphorically though recently, The definition of literally is no longer the literal definition of literally but rather has been assigned with the literal definition of 'figuratively' and 'metaphorically'
thereby making it formally non-literal, equivalent to its use colloquially

Unusual tutors and teachings

It was just another day for me, the usual morning routine... mundane stuff . As usual i was on my way to the bus stop (on the way to office of course) and as usual i saw a beggar on the road and AS USUAL, i gave him some money that i could afford to dispose (yes, yes i am charitable).Phew, too many usual(s)... okay enough, i am getting to the unusual part that compelled me to share what happened as a blog entry, As i was waiting for the bus to arrive i noticed the guy (the protagonist, i.e the beggar) enter a shop and get some vadas (A south Indian snack -<For those international fans of mine>) ... so far so good ...usual of course. He goes to a corner of the road, sits down on the pavement and starts tearing up his vada into smaller pieces... he then starts throwing these pieces on the road scattering it all around him . The judgmental side in me kicked in and i thought to myself that this was definitely a mad man who needed to be in a home for the mentally challenged. A couple of minutes later i realized how wrong and quick to judge i was . I saw a couple of crows(yeah 2 crows exactly!) and stray dogs that came to eat the food that the man had scattered, He also started petting those dogs so lovingly. This scene was something marvelous... amazing, An act so selfless that definitely deserved to be mentioned somewhere in this universe. This was truly inspiring for me. I am pretty sure that if i was in his position, having nothing ... literally nothing... I would have thought only about myself, saving as much as i can from the paltry change i get as alms but this man who had no certainty about his next meal, definitely looking hungry himself decided to spend all that he got on some creatures which can never repay him in any way for this act of selflessness (Actually these creatures are better than most humans i know). Seriously that's commendable ! I learned something that i will remember forever.

I realized that :

  • The lesser wealth one owns greater is the willingness to part with it !
  • I should never judge a book by its cover (beggar by his looks in this case)
  • God has a way of taking care of every creature that he has made (Replace God with Nature or Universe, he by it -- <if you are an atheist>)
  • Some beggars are better people than 89.732% of the famous personalities (in case you are wondering, Yea i calculated it right to the decimal point)
  • I should improve on my sarcasm and article writing in general. (Finally some modesty!)
